Catechists

The parishes of St. Mark and St. Rose of Lima have faith formation programs for children and young adults. To enroll your child, please contact the rectory.

These programs rely heavily on parishioner volunteers. Opportunities to get involved are listed below.

All positions listed below are year-long volunteer positions.

Catechist

A catechist is called upon to serve through teaching, witness, prayer, service and to help build community by continuing the mission of Jesus Christ.

All teaching materials are provided. The catechist manual presents an in-depth explanation of the chapter material with easy to follow plans, along with background information.

We welcome team-teaching (2 co-catechists or 1 catechist with an assistant who work together weekly). This benefits the students, the catechist and the office staff as it almost always eliminates the need for finding a substitute when occasionally a teacher is not available.

Substitute Catechist

A substitute must have the flexibility to work with all children. Usually a lesson will be assigned or our staff can provide special materials for that day’s lesson.

You can request a specific day to be called upon, but please be flexible regarding the grade level in need.

Classroom Aide

An aide assists the catechist weekly to effectively complete the goals for the lesson presented. They may assist with attendance, crafts, classroom discipline and with younger grades may accompany children to the bathrooms. Occasionally they may be asked to substitute and teach the daily lesson.

Special Events

Parents will be called upon several times a year when we have special presentations, fieldtrips, fundraising events or social activities. You will be part of the planning, organizing and running of these events along with the students. Your participation is a key ingredient in the success of these special extracurricular functions.
